Quest Prof wins prestigious national math award, feature story by Jennifer Thuncher, Squamish Chief, November 2017. ![]() Richard was the 2017 recipient of the Adrien Pouliot Award, awarded by the Canadian Mathematical Society as a lifetime achievement award to celebrate "significant and sustained contributions to mathematics education". He is also the author of "The Math Olympian", a novel that is currently ranked #1 by GoodReads in Best Young Adult Books that Empower. Richard is heavily involved in high school outreach, and continues to visit dozens of schools each year to share his passion and love for mathematics and computer science. He has published 36 research papers across numerous fields and is the owner of Hoshino Math Services, a boutique math consulting firm. Prior to his arrival at Northeastern in 2020, Richard was a professor of mathematics at Quest University Canada in Squamish, British Columbia (2013-2020), a post-doctoral fellow at the National Institute of Informatics in Tokyo (2010-2012), and a mathematician with the Government of Canada, leading the mathematics and data exploration section at the Canada Border Services Agency (2006-2010). He began his Northeastern career in June 2020. Richard Hoshino teaches computer science at the Vancouver campus of Northeastern University. ![]()
